Wireless Internet Use Policy

The Harwinton Public Library offers free wireless Internet access to patrons with wireless-enabled laptop computers or handheld devices.  By accessing our internet the patron has agreed to abide by the library's Internet Computer Use Policy.

Library staff cannot provide the wireless card, configure or troubleshoot your equipment.  There is no guarantee that you will make your wireless connection.

All wireless access users should have up-to-date virus protection on their laptop computers or wireless devices.

The Library will not be responsible for any information (i.e. credit card, banking  information) that is compromised, or any damage that is caused to the hardware or software due to security issues or consequences caused by viruses or hacking.

Printers are not available via the wireless connection.

 

Internet Computer Use

The Library will not assume responsibility for the accuracy, content, completeness or type of information found on the internet. The Library does not monitor or control the content of material available through the internet.  Children under the age of 18 must have a permission form signed by a parent or guardian.


Computer Use Computers now available for formal and informal educational needs provide word processing, spreadsheet, and research capabilities. To maximize their usage you will be asked to adhere to the following: The patron is responsible for any damage or loss caused to the computers, printers, floppy disks, or software while he/she is using the computer. Repair or replacement of items necessary for damage caused by the patron will be charged to the patron at a cost determined by the Library. A parent or legal guardian is responsible for any loss or damage caused by a child under 18 years of age. The Library reserves the right to change this policy at any time.

 Who May Borrow DVDs/Videos?
Any Harwinton Public Library cardholder over the age of 16.  Materials must be presented at the time of borrowing and a statement must be signed by the borrower agreeing to assume financial responsibility for the DVD/videos.  In the case of theft, loss, total damage or broken tape, the patron will be charged the full replacement cost of the DVD/video/s. The Harwinton Public Library follows the guidelines of the Motion Picture Association of America. Parental consent must be given for "R" rated DVD/video/s for anyone under 17 years of age.

What are the Circulation Rules?
Circulation periods are limited to forty-eight (48) hours, for Circuit DVD/VIDEO loans.  Friday loans are not due back until the following Monday.  Cardholders are limited to three (3) Circuit DVD/VIDEOS.  Library-owned DVD/VIDEOS may be borrowed for seven (7) days.

Patrons are limited to a total of six (6) DVD/VIDEOs at any one time.  All DVD/VIDEOs must be returned by CLOSING time on the day they are due.  There are no holds or renewals.

Charges?
There is no charge for these materials, although donations will be accepted.  A fine of $1.00 per day will be charged for each title returned late, not to exceed $5.00 per DVD/VIDEO.  All charges must be paid before video borrowing privileges can be reinstated.  Broken or lost materials will be charged the replacement cost.


Activity Room Use The Library is a non-profit, tax exempt organization. Reservations for use of the activity room can be made by non-profit, local organizations only. The activity room seats 49 and no program may disrupt the use of the library by others. Reservations can be made by calling no more than 90 days in advance. Notice to cancel must be given to the Library 24 hours in advance. Persons attending the meetings are subject to all library rules and regulations. The Activity Room must be left in a clean and orderly condition. Users must pay the cost for repair of any damages to the facilities.

Who May Borrow A Pass?
Any registered Harwinton Public Library patron over the age of 16 whose membership is in good standing for a minimum of one month.  A statement must be signed by the borrower agreeing to assume responsibility for the pass. 

How Long May A Pass Be Borrowed?
Circulation periods are limited to two (2) days.   We will be happy to place a hold on passes that are out, and reserve passes that are available up to two (2) business days.    Pass must be picked up and returned to the front desk of the library.  Pass must be returned by closing time of the day it is due.

Are There Any Charges?
There is no charge to borrow a museum pass.  However, there is a $2.00 per day late fee.  A $20.00 deposit for each pass is required and will be refunded upon return of the pass.
